December 2023

A Note from Our Principal

Dear Parkcenter Families,

The winter season is underway!  This month we are excited to invite you into your child’s classroom to celebrate the season with our community!  We believe in creating a nurturing environment that celebrates the rich traditions that make each family unique. I invite you to share your unique traditions with your teacher and community.

As we move into the new year, I hope you take a moment to reflect on the year and all the accomplishments you have had.  I am truly amazed at all you do for your children and wish you a year of good health, happy moments with friends and family, and continued success.

With Gratitude,

Jamie

Winter Gear

Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing and shoes for outdoor play each day.  This includes coat, snow pants, hat, gloves/mittens, boots.  When items are labeled, we can better support your child in keeping track of their belongings.  Take a moment to refresh your child’s back up clothing with weather appropriate items.  This should include shirt, pants, underwear and socks.  Please bring indoor shoes for your child to leave in the classroom to change into after outdoor play.

The Coat Flip

To support our students’ independence in preparing to go outside during the winter months, we teach the coat flip. Here is a quick tutorial from one of our students at Montessori Academy. This might be a helpful tool to use as a visual at home.

Step 1: Lay the coat on the floor (inside facing up; collar/hood at child’s feet)

Step 2: Place hands inside the arms of the coat

Step 3: Flip over head keeping hands in the coat!

The Giving Tree

Our Annual Giving Tree initiative will be in support of the Idaho Ronald McDonald House.   This program serves families with seriously ill or injured children being treated at a Boise area medical facility. At the House, families have a warm, comfortable place to sleep, eat, and find support, care, understanding and compassion from staff, volunteers and other families staying at the House. For more information: https://www.rmhcidaho.org/idahohouse/

Our campus will be collecting coloring books, activity books, and art supplies.  Please bring all new, unopened, unwrapped items to the  office.  Administration will deliver the items before winter break.  Thank you for your generosity!

Last month our campus collected 421 pounds of items supporting the Idaho Food Bank!  A special thank you to our Kindergarten crew that helped get all of the items boxed and loaded for delivery.  Our community does amazing things!  Thank you for all your contributions!

Exploring the World: Geography at Montessori Academy Idaho

Geography, taught right, is a beautiful way of stoking a child’s imagination. It’s an excellent opportunity for cross-disciplinary learning—for making art and practicing fine motor skills, for reading tied to content learning, for storytelling and report-writing. Geography can and should be fun—and at Montessori Academy Idaho, it is! But unfortunately,[.....]
