April Newsletter
From the Principals Desk
Happy Spring! I love the later sunsets, the blooming flowers, songbirds in the morning, and the smells of spring in the evening on my deck! All those signs of the changing season make me smile!
However, April brings with it the realization that our school year is quickly coming to an end. Our students are busily working on final projects in upper and lower elementary, K-6th students will have summative assessments this month, and our Primary students are learning about the renewal of Spring through lessons on the life cycle of plants, animals, and insects.
All students are showing amazing strides in reading as we conclude our month of literacy and move into a month of Poetry! In our school, we will celebrate reading, writing, and sharing poetry all month. We will start each morning with a poem read over the intercom and provide surprise Stop, Drop, and Read or Stop, Drop, and write poetry!
We will post poems all over the school, hang them in our trees, and more! If you or your child has a favorite poem to share during our morning read-aloud, please let us know!
We have many events this month so please look at the dates and reminders section to ensure that you do not miss out!
Warmly,
Kim
Literacy Month
We had such fun celebrating and recognizing the importance of literacy this month. Our kick-off week and dress-up days were so much fun!
Our goal was to read 350 books school-wide in March. Drumroll please, we read 371 books!! Yahoo! We will start having students pick out their books next week!
Thank you to everyone for making this fun and enjoying books with your children.
What is National Poetry Month?
Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and, of course, poets, marking poetry’s important place in our lives. In 2021, the Academy of American Poets looks forward to celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of this annual celebration! (poets.org)
Earth Day
Earth day is on April 22, 2021. Our school will be participating in Parent Teacher Conference on the official day, so we will celebrate all week long! Earth day is designated for fostering an appreciation for the earth’s environment and awareness of issues that threaten it. Students will explore these topics based on age and grade. Please be on the lookout for sign up genius to help us meet our Earth Day goals. Every student is encouraged to bring 1 flower to plant around the school grounds.

If you need a gluten-free option, please email Jordan at Jordan@montessoriacdemyidaho.com. If you prefer your child to not participate, please just let us know.

Fuzzy caterpillar
with your million-jillion feet,
how do you know which foot should go
as you’re walking on that leaf?
You make it look so easy,
right-left-right, the way you do,
sometimes MY feet get tangled up
and I have only TWO.
