July 2019 Summer Camp News

Primary Summer Camp (Toddlers Thru K)

Wow, Summer Camp is flying by!  We had fun in June learning about Non-Newtonian fluids, Air Flow, making puppets, messy art, science experiments, simple cooking, watching a puppet show and a magic show, listening to stories from the library, water play, and lots of literature!

July will bring more fun!  Our first week we will focus understanding the fundamental needs of plants!  Through this discussion, students will explore the life cycle of a plants, understand our foods that are roots, stems, and flowers, the parts of a plant, worm experiments and how they are important for our plants, listen to stories from the library, and enjoy some art from the Craft Studio!

Build it Together week will all be STEM related!  We will look at architecture and significant architecture in the world.  Students will explore building with differing materials, STEM challenges, and parts of a building.  Students will enjoy Kona Ice, a presentation from the Idaho Fish and Game, and end the week with Water day focusing on water challenges and games.

Good Sport week will focus on large and fine motor skills as it relates to differing sports and games.  Students will learn about sportsmanship and what is to be a good team player.  We will have some team building games that will stretch those large motor limits of balance, coordination, and concentration.  These skills will be used to play games, relay races, and learn some soccer skills.

Ready, set Go! will bring experiences in transportation as we explore different types of transportation on land, air, and water.  Student will engage in literacy, math, art, and science related to our theme.  Students will have a visit from Corbin Maxey and his world of animals and the Idaho Children’s Theater.

Our final week will focus on hometown helpers!  Who are those in our community?  We will have visits from our fire department and have fun with dramatic play!

Additionally, our Primary Campers will be supporting our Kids Helping Kids Campaign as we support The Language and Learning Lab at Calico.  They will help us clean those donated used books and purchase popcorn on Wednesday to raise funds to purchase crayons and coloring books for the students at Calico.

Elementary Summer Camp (1st-6th Grade)

Elementary Campers have been super busy with 2-3 off campus fieldtrips each week!  On campus they are participating in theater, art, music, science, computer science, games, and tons more.  They took off on adventures to MK Nature Center, Meridian Pools, Park Day, Wahooz Fun Zone, Fire Station, The Apple Store, and the Star Lab!

In July, they will continue spending time in our community with trips to the pool, parks, Babby Farms, Idaho Birds of Prey, The Discovery Center, and Idaho Botanical Gardens.  They will engage in STEM challenges, drama, Science, literature and more.  They will have finished reading their book club book, James and the Giant Peach and will watch the movie to see how it compares and contrasts to what they have read.

As with our Primary Campers, our Elementary campers will be participating in our Kids Helping Kids Campaign.  They have been selling popcorn in the lobby on Wednesday to raise money to purchase coloring books and crayons.  Further, we are taking donations of diapers, wipes, and hand sanitizer for the classrooms.  They will take a trip on the 15th to The Language and Learning Lab to bring all the items they are working on and receive a tour of the school.
