Montessori Academy January 2019 Newsletter

A Note from Our Principal,

Welcome back! Returning to school in January is always filled with renewed energy and resolve to make a positive difference in the lives of all the members of our school community.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Holiday Concerts and Winter STEM parties in December, and to the staff and students for putting on such great events.

We start 2019 with a focus on responsibility. Working with students to help them learn to accept personal responsibility is a critical part of what we do each day. Being responsible means others can depend on you. You are accountable for your actions. When things go wrong and you make a mistake, you make amends instead of excuses. When you are responsible, you keep your agreements. You give your best to any job.

As we begin the New Year it is always a good time to focus once again on our personal goals and to adjust and fine tune the steps we must take to achieve them. I encourage parents to sit down with their child(ren) and discuss their performance, celebrate the successes and develop goals and next steps.

Finally, I wish everyone a very Happy New Year and I look forward to witnessing the many successes and achievements of our students as the year unfolds.

Inclement Weather Policy

While we have been blessed with mild winter weather to date, it is possible in January to be facing snowy and icy conditions.  The decision to close school is a process which is not taken lightly by the administration. As storms approach, administrative staff monitor weather forecasts in preparation to check road conditions during the night and into the early morning before the start of school. If school is cancelled because of poor road conditions, information about the closure will be posted on the schools website, tadpole notification will be sent, and local media will also be notified (Channel 7 KTVB).

The decision to close school needs to be made between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on the morning school will be closed in order to have adequate time to alert parents, students, staff and the community of the school closure.
Parent Appreciation/Montessori Celebration Community Lunch
Save the Date!  January 16th we will be hosting a community lunch and parents are invited!  In honor of parents as educators of children, we celebrate in conjunction with the opening of the first Montessori school in January 1907.  Thank you for allowing our team to be a part of your families educational journey and choosing Montessori.  An Italian lunch will be hosted by the students who will additionally be making lunch for you.  Times and needs will be posted in classrooms on January 9th.  We do hope you can attend.
