A Note From Our Principal,
Thank you all for your participation in our events last month! Our annual fall social at the Farmstead is one of our favorite events each year. Our teachers, children and families look forward to “playing” together in the pumpkin patch and counting down to the famed “Kiss the Pig” event! Congratulations again to the room 5 students whose fundraising efforts earned Miss Emily the famed kiss with the Pig!
Our kindergarten students shared the holiday spirit with their monthly community project, the Peace Pumpkins. Pumpkins from the Farmstead were painted and delivered to our neighbor residents at Brookdale Assisted Living and also to the dentist office in our parking lot. A huge thank you to our learning leaders for showing us that the best part of the season, is in sharing.
This will be a busy month as we head into the holiday season and we are looking forward to spending it with you and your children. Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns or need additional care/schedule changes during this time of year. We are grateful for you all. Happy Thanksgiving!
School Events in November
November 1-20th: Idaho Food Bank Food Drive Each year our school holds a food drive to support the Idaho Food Bank. In the past years we’ve raised over 200+ for our community. This year our goal is to beat that number! Each classroom will have a decorated box for food collections outside their classroom door. Please bring in any unopened, non perishable food items to share.
November 5-9th: Claim your Lost & Found Items Did you know that in the lobby there is a Lost & Found basket that is kept in a labeled cupboard? All this week we will be displaying the items in the lobby for a last effort in helping claim these items. Items will be donated at the end of the week to the Idaho Refugee Program. Please feel free to check our Lost & Found cupboard in the lobby.
Monday, November 12th: School will be closed in honor of Veteran’s Day. There will be no childcare or office hours during this closure.
Wednesday, November 21st-23rd: School will be closed for Thanksgiving Holiday. There will be no childcare or office hours during this closure.
Winter is Coming
With winter around the corner, we want to be sure that our students and you are prepared. Here are a few pro tips about navigating all that colder weather can bring.
- Weather Appropriate Clothing: Remember that we go outside at least 30 minutes everyday. If temperatures are colder than 30 degrees we will limit according to Central District Health guidelines. Please be sure that your child has weather appropriate clothing when coming to school. Once it begins to snow, we will require children have snow pants/coats/gloves and hats kept at school. Also, please be sure to update your child’s extra clothing to include warmer clothes.
- Label, label, label: With the influx of more coats, hats, gloves, mittens, etc. you will want to make sure that your winter items are properly labeled. Also please check to ensure that when your child brings home their items that they do not have another student’s name on them. Oftentimes we see multiple versions of the same winter gear which can cause for confusion. If you can find a coat with mitten clips or built in mitten strings, these will help you keep those snow gloves attached to your child’s coat.
- Snow Closures and Delays: School closures due to weather conditions such as snow/ice can happen. Determinations will be made by 6 am if the school weather conditions are deemed unsafe. In the event our school does close or have a delayed start, we will reach out via email to our enrolled families via email, update our website notification, leave a outgoing voice mail at the school and report our closure/delay to channel 7 news. Drive safely out there!
