2017-2018 Re-Enrollment Due back February 24th
It is re-enrollment time!
Our Priority registration packets have been sent home to all currently enrolled students and are due back by February 24th. Returning your child’s packet ensures re-enrollment for your child into September 2017-June 2018 school year. If you need additional forms, please see the front office
Priority Registration ends on February 24th. We of course would rather keep all our currently enrolled students, so we will follow up with you personally if we do not receive enrollment paperwork or a withdrawal notice by the due date. If you are not returning, please provide a written notice of withdrawal to the school by February 24th.
Open enrollment for Sept. 2017-June 2018 will begin February 25th.
Summer 2017 registration (July and August) will open February 24th and continue until limited space is filled.
Parent Information Nights
February 1st from 6:30-7:30 —Kindergarten Information Night at Parkcenter Montessori.
If your child is about to enter Kindergarten, I invite you to join us for a Kindergarten Orientation Night.
Regardless if you are already committed to Montessori, still deciding, or have made a decision to attend another school for your child’s Kindergarten year, our orientation will provide you with a sound look at our Kindergarten curriculum and allow you to ask us question directly related to your child’s readiness, common core, or other questions you may have.
If you have already invested in a year or two of Montessori for your child the Kindergarten year is the synthesis year. Montessori is designed to be a 3 year program. The first 2 years serve an indirect purpose of laying the foundation for further work and learning.
For example, the math material is a series of exercises that guides the child starting with the most concrete and basic introduction to numbers and quantity. Over the following three years the lessons build upon themselves, adding layers of abstractness and an increasing understanding of mathematical concepts, until the child is eventually able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide — with a deeply ingrained understanding of what those operations mean — using only pencil, paper, and his or her head.
Students that leave before Kindergarten year still reap benefits from their Montessori education, but they are denied of that precious third year– the opportunity to complete the full cycle of activity with the classroom materials and curriculum, and the chance to be the leaders that they themselves had looked up to those previous years.
Montessori education, even if limited, still has great benefits. Imagine the child’s education as a house– the first year builds a solid foundation, and the second and third years erect the walls and, finally, the roof to top it off. The foundation is still useful on its own, but the house becomes a home, and much more significant, if one is allowed to build it to completion. I encourage you if you can, to give the gift of Montessori to your children and allow them to have their final year to shine, Kindergarten.
I, along with your child’s teacher, hope you will join us on February 1st and explore the possibilities of Kindergarten in Montessori or beyond.
February 9th from 6:30-7:30 — Elementary Information Night at Montessori Academy. (located at 1400 Park Lane Eagle, ID.) Come join our Elementary teachers show off their Lower and Upper Elementary Montessori classrooms. Teachers will talk about the benefits of continuing with the Montessori curriculum through the elementary years.
Current Kindergarten Upcoming Events
If your child is currently enrolled in Kindergarten, we have a schedule of upcoming field trips, workshops, and events to help keep you in the loop of any upcoming events. This year the students will be visiting the STEM bus, Sue the Dionsaur and much more! Parents are invited to attend any of these events with their child.
For Field trips: As always, every student will need a signed permission slip for their student to attend any off campus field trip. These waivers will go home 1 week prior to the event.
New this year, we will be using First Student Bus company for most of our off campus field trip transportation. Safety is always a priority on these trips and the teachers will be going over rules of the bus along with field trip safety.
