Week of the Young Child
Every year National Association of Early Childhood Education deems one week as the week of the young child.  It is a week of creating awareness within the community and with families about how they can be more involved in early childhood education.  We have decided to celebrate April as the month of the young child!  In celebration of this, our school has focused on Montessori and the Arts.

SAVE THE DATE-MAY 1st:  SPRING PERFORMANCE
This month our Boise Montessori Parent Teacher Organization has generously brought in a theatre teacher for all classrooms (Miss Renee) as well as a Montessori artist (Miss Amee)  to work with our kids.  They will be working with your children on creating a Spring Performance and Art auction to be on display at the Spring Performance on May 1st.  SAVE THE DATE!  More information will be on it’s way.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
April 16th & 17th:   School will be closed and there will be no child care offered during these days.  We want to make space and time for all of our families to sit down with their child(ren)’s teacher.  Sign up for your meeting time on your classroom door.  Please be respectful of your meeting times as they will fill up with other families.  Thank you.

BMPTO (Parent/Teacher Organization)

T-Shirt Sale:  Friday closes the pre-sale for our Montessori T-shirt order.  These blue T-shirts will be encouraged for the kids to wear while in our Spring Performance.  Order yours today!

Yearbook Order forms: Attached you will find a yearbook order form.  All pre-order forms will be due to the office by April 15th.  Payments for yearbooks will need to be made out to Boise Montessori Parent/Teacher Organization (BMPTO for short).

Volunteer Needs

  • In the Garden:  If you have a green thumb and are willing to share your know how, ask your teacher if you can help organize a gardening activity for your child’s class.
  • In the Yearbook:  Last chance for any of those great event photo opps!  If you have any great pics, send them our way.  We are particularly looking for some from our all school events such as Fall Social, field trips, etc.
  • Speaking of Social… This year we did not have any volunteers to coordinate a Spring Social.  If you are interested in continuing this event, please let the front desk know.

Teacher Appreciation:  May 4-8th –  Do you have any ideas of how we can say thank you to our teachers, come see the front office.

Theatre Opportunity
Our apologies to the kindergarten class for canceling the Idaho Shakespeare Performance (ISF) on March 29th.  Due to a power outage that had our traffic lights and Eagle school without power, we felt it would be best to all.  However, ISF has graciously extended invitations to our kindergarten kids and their families to come watch them perform off campus at any of the following scheduled performances:

  • April 3rd:  8am at West Junior High School  **You will need to sign in at the front desk to attend this performance due to school policies.
  • April 21st:  7pm at Morrison Center

Notes from Miss Emily L.

Welcome back from Spring Break!  Hopefully, before break your child cleaned his or her cubby and took home whatever had been accumulating over winter.  Now that we’re back in session, please take some time to pack with your child one set of extra clothes to keep at school.  And remember to bring naptime bedding! The room 4 kids are getting speedier and speedier at bed-making. It’s been fun to hear “I did it! I made my mat myself!” With increasing regularity from more and more children. This is an achievement your young ones feel strongly.  Ask them about it; have them help with making their own beds at home!

You may have noticed PCM staff walking around with clipboards at the beginning and end of each school day.  As a staff, we are becoming accustomed to the new routine of filling out “Face to Name” forms, on which we record the precise time of your child’s arrival and departure.  PLEASE arrive promptly at school.  The Great Work Period, in which your child works with the Montessori materials and during which time I give individual and small-group lessons, begins at 9:00; arriving late is not only an interruption for myself and any lesson that may be occurring, but it is an interruption of your own child’s day as well.  The main work of young children is “to become” and “to belong.”  Arriving within the same time-frame as one’s classmates at the beginning of the day helps your child to truly feel like a member of the community; she or he belongs with the group at the very start of the day!  Indeed, many children arrive at school in the morning with an idea of what material they want to use first in the morning. A prompt arrival and quick good-bye helps make the most of your child’s time at school.  I am in the classroom everyday by 8:45 am and you can bring your child directly to Room 4 anytime between then and 9am!

I am really proud of all the children learning “The Star Spangled Banner” in March!  This month we’ll move from studying North America to a continent study of Africa. Do you think we can learn some traditional African tunes?

We’ll also study the water cycle and immerse ourselves in Springtime activities!

I’m looking forward to meeting with all of you during Parent-Teacher conferences April 16-17.  Childcare will be available in Room 1 during your time slot only! Please select your time and sign up on the sheets located on the counter across the hall from our classroom door.

Enjoy the warmer temperatures and sunshine!

Ms. Emily and Ms. Lexie
